Italian Food & Family are Area Favorites for McDowell
CONCORD, N.C. (September 10, 2014) – As the Chase for the Sprint Cup kicks-off this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing team is looking to finish the season strong and continue to build toward the 2015 season.
Driver Michael McDowell enjoys this track and has set his sights on a Top-25 finish in the No. 95 Thrivent Financial Ford Fusion this weekend.
“I like going to Chicago -- it's one of the first mile and a half tracks that I got to experience in a stock car. Also, I won the ARCA race there in 2007 so I enjoy going back. My goals for this race are to make it to the second round of qualifying and to run in the Top 25. That would be a huge success for us.”
Crew chief Wally Rogers will take the No. 95 race car that secured a 26th place finish in the Brickyard 400 earlier this season and is preparing his team to focus on that Top-25 finish goal.
“While the Chase is starting a lot of focus is on the teams and drivers in the championship. We are using the end of the season as our own Chase – we want to finish the year strong, continue to grow and improve and build to 2015. We’re using these last races no different than the championship contenders – we have a goal in mind and we’re going after it.”
Leavine Family Racing’s primary sponsor Thrivent Financial will host a special event for its members on Friday night at Grace United Methodist Church in Joliet featuring McDowell.
“I’m really looking to the Thrivent event on Friday night,” said McDowell. “It will be my first event I've done for Thrivent Financial outside the racetrack. It will be fun to learn more about what they do and how they do it. It will also give me an opportunity to share my story and my faith with their members and their associates.”
McDowell has a strong family connection to the Chicago area as his father was born in the city and his grandfather lives in the area.
“Since we have family ties to the area, my family has vacationed in Chicago and have been able to see a lot of history and attractions. It’s always a great place to hang out enjoy some good Italian food.”
The MyAFibStory.com 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway will take place on Sept. 14 at 2p.m. ET and broadcast live on ESPN.
